Dear Sirs,
I really feel sad every time Reuters call the terrorist members of ETA, separatists. The reason for this awfull and painfull feeling is thay it is really a huge MISTAKE, because I am certain that your cuktural level is high enough to distinguish both meanings - mistake and error - in the English Language.
You only have to go to the History of Spainh and Iberia. The Basque area has never been a kingdom, let alone a nation or a country. So, how can you call them separatists? They have never been invaded by Castillians or Spaniards. The real Basque people came from Africa -so it is said by some scientists- or from Central Europe -by other scientists- and they invaded the north of Navarre and settled themselves in it. But not in the areas where nowadays they consider Basque Country.
To tell the whole History would take loo much time, but I would advise you to get to know it as soon as possible.
ETa is a terrorist group. Now they say that there is a "permanent" cease fire... Yet, is there a war in the Basque Country? Or those who kill, kidnap, threaten to death if you do not pay the "revolutionary tax", persecute and make fun of not nationalist peolple are only members of ETA?
Of course some terrorists have died while they were preparing bombs, others when they found that the Basque or Spanish police repeled their shooting and made use of their guns to save their lives. I also disagreed with the GAL behabiour which caused death of inocent people and was a terrorist behaviour against ETA. But ETA has killed well over 900 people, and many hundreds died due to illnesses caused by their persecution. Almost 300.000 people have seen themselves obliged to leave their homes, jobs, family and move to other cities or countries to save their lives...
Please, call them by their name. TERRORISTS. You are people who can find out that I am telling the truth. I wish this was not like it is, because I love the place where I was born. Unfortunately, I cannot live there any longer.
The problem with Northen Ireland is completely different. Yet I do not agree with IRA as it is a terrorist group as well. The British invaded Ireland, so some Northen Ireland peolple would like to separete from England, but Castille never invaded what ETA and the nationalists consider The Basque Country. Nevertheless, both IRA and ETA are terrorists who in some cases have been in contact with other terrorists groups more frequently than not.
Thank yoy for your attention, and please, call them from now on TERRORISTS. You will be telling the truth and the victims of the terror of this members will be very grateful to you as I would.
